Gen-Con

Journal Entry: Sun Aug 17, 2008, 3:47 PM

  • Reading: Lord of the Rings again (Andrew's fault)
  • Playing: the Enchanting Countess Ariana Liselle of Enodia
  • Drinking: Green Tea
Well, the first week of band camp was completely righteous, as most of you are, indubitably, aware. As was the car wash, at which I had a great deal of fun. =D In other news, yesterday was my family reunion at Bruce's mansion, and as a pleasant surprise, I found that we were visiting my Jaja's family, (Jaja is Grandfather in Polish, it's what I used to call my Jaja) and it's just my Mom's Mom's family that makes me eat the sledja (pickled herring). Mostly because, unfortunately, anyone old enough to care about that sort of tradition on my Jaja's side is now passed away, due to the strange age-difference that would take an extremely long time to explain. Anyways, we got to swim in a pool that WAS, in fact, larger than my house. (Bruce is a millionaire, he made his money in Microsoft and retired at the ripe old age of 34, and now sells costumes and hats on the internet to make a fair profit) That was cool. Plus, my 2nd cousins are HILARIOUS. Seriously, one of them is a comedian with a show at Joey's Comedy Club. It's like it's genetic for them, they crack me up like no other. So we had a lot of fun there.
Then, just a couple of hours ago, my Father returned from Gen-Con (Geneva Convention, or as I like to say the Geeks-Eggheads-and-Nerdles Convention) and he brought me back a RIGHTEOUS SEXY AND ALL-AROUND-AWESOME TEE-SHIRT that you all get to see tomorrow. For the less culturally educated, the Geneva Convention is a 5-day-span during which geeks from all over the country congregate and play such games as DnD (Dungeons and Dragons) and other role-playing games, often centering around themes like Star Wars or Star Trek or Star Gate or anything at all with the word "Star" in the name. There are also a lot of what we like to refer to as "Uber-Geeks" who dress up as knights or trekkies and get laughed at by the cool geeks such as my father, who only dresses up in the sense that he and all his friends plan their outfits and match each day, often times in coordinated hawaiian shirts or the classic "What Plan?" tees designed by a friend of ours. There is also a large exhibit hall in which you can purchase all sorts of knick-knacks, such as swords or lightsabers, or, most predominately, paintings of naked women, often riding dragons or doing other such things. One of my Father's friends that he attends Gen-Con with, "Buff" (short for both "Buffet Bob" and "Buffing Wheel Bob") has managed, over the years, to purchase so much of this art that he can no longer fit it all on the walls of his house (which is quite expansive.) He quite literally has as many paintings on each wall as can fit, but still has to rotate them. This year he did not, however, stoop from his usual excessive purchases, and although my Father drove with him, he was forced to put his luggage in another friend's car because there was simply too much crap in Buff's car for my father's suitcase to fit. However, besides the strange looks our neighbors gave us as Buff dug below his naked women pictures to find something of my Father's, we're all quite glad that he's home.

That's about it for right now. I just kinda wanted to write a new post since I got sick of looking at Ariana's name. Anyways, that's about it for now and I can't wait for tomorrow. TTFN!! =D

I have serious issues, I swear. I'm okay on the computer, but I don't have that many people to talk to, so I usually just post things on random deviations. I'm really mad, I buy this magazine every month but I've been so busy that when I went yesterday I got June's issue and missed May's! I should really get a subscription, but I'm to lazy.

I kinda know what you mean. I hate talking to people on the phone when I'm at home and stuff. I just like talking to them on the computer. And I am very jealous that you were at Barnes and Noble's, even though I'm ridiculously backed up on books I need to read. X)

Yay for Jazz Band! That is so funny! I saw him at Camerons a while ago. Guess who I saw today at Barnes and Nobles? Brandon and Hannah, it was really funny, because I saw them from behind and Haley didn't even see them! I'm really weird when it comes to seeing people I don't know that well outside of school, so I kind of avoided them until later when they saw me passing by. I have social issues, which is really bad but I am very antisocial outside of school.

Yeah, well you may have noticed this but I play loud anyhow, so it was really bad when I played Bass. OH JEEZ, GUESS WHO I SAW AT MY GARAGE SALE TODAY?!?!?! THE G-DOG!!!!!! It was the WEIRDEST thing ever. Seriously. :wow:
And yeah, I'm not going to march it, since I want to be section leader in senior year and being a clarinet would probably help =) and I'm going to play clarinet in class, but I want to play it in Jazz Band. :boogie:

Are you going to march tenor or just play it in class? Baritone was really sharp for me but I'm not sure how to fix it except to pull out my tuning slides. The baritone was also really loud, it scared me the first time playing it with the band because you could hear me over the rest of the band!

Yeah, it's probably kinda like learning bass wasn't really a new instrument, just the embouchure was totally different and awkward. And it was so LOUD. :boogie: Yeah, I'm taking lessons for it starting Mon. so I hope to be good enough by next October or whenever auditions were. =D So geeked. :excited:

You're learning tenor? That's awesome! I know, we got the worst deal. I want to try learning another instrument, maybe Tuba or French Horn, but my mom doesn't want me to. She thinks that it's good enough that I learned baritone, but that wasn't that great because the only thing different was the fingerings.

I hope so too! I'm learning tenor and I was hoping to be good enough to audition next year. It's so scary, not knowing what's gonna happen...we just HAD to be the class of 2011, who only got Mr B for one year. That's just our luck, I spose. =/

There are millions of 'what ifs' for next year! I'm fine if they add things, but I hope they don't take away any activities! I love jazz band, but I'm afraid it will go away!

It is. I hope we don't get a moron who doesn't care though, I'm kinda scared with all these "what-if?" scenarios running through my head.

I know. Hopefully the new teacher doesn't make the symphonic band sight read rythms. I won't miss scales, but they do help you be a better musician. It is depressing when you think about it.

Yeah, I'll miss some things, but not some things. I mean, I love Mr. B, although he can be kinda intimidating, but I won't miss the scales tests. There's very little I won't miss though, that's about it....Gosh I'm so sad. =(

I know, honors night put me in the mood to march! I don't want to return our uniforms, I might have to wear it once more before returning it. It will be EXTREMELY different, but I'll miss Mr.B.

Np. I'm just in such an MB mood now though... :boogie: Can't wait for it, although it DEFINITELY won't be the same. I have such mixed feelings about Mr. B.....
